Like to live life on the edge? Then this extreme camping adventure in Mount Buffalo National Park, a four-hour drive north-east of Melbourne, is for you. Led by guides, you’ll abseil down one of Mount Buffalo Gorge’s sheer cliff faces to a “portaledge”, which sits suspended 300m above the ground. Beyond the Edge is the highest commercial cliff camping experience in the world and the first of its kind in Australia. Following a three-course dinner, guests are left to spend the night on their prime (and surprisingly comfortable) perch – watching as darkness falls over Victoria’s Alps and stars appear above the snow gum forests. After all that fresh mountain air, you’ll be more than ready for breakfast before taking the (optional) abseil down to the valley floor.
